The Project
The aim was simple: bring nostalgia into the present. By blending 8-bit charm with modern AR tech, Pac-Map transforms familiar spaces into interactive playgrounds, and we built a digital home to match.
The Brief
The goal was to design an AR experience that stayed true to the soul of Pac-Man while pushing its potential into new, interactive territory. Alongside the game, we needed to create a promotional website that echoed the retro spirit but felt contemporary, a space that could excite players, highlight features, and drive downloads without overcomplicating the journey.
The Challenges
The challenge was balance. How do you keep the visual DNA of a game everyone knows, while making it feel genuinely new in AR? The design needed to honour the retro aesthetics, yet be bold enough to engage a modern audience. On the website, the task was translating that same energy into a clean, engaging showcase that felt nostalgic but not dated.
Project Impact
Pac-Map was created as part of a global community design challenge, where I placed third out of over 250 designers. The brief was open, but most entries leaned heavily into nostalgia, staying close to the original Pac-Man aesthetic. I took a different route. My approach was to evolve the brand entirely: modernising the concept, redesigning the visual language, and pushing it into a new digital context through AR.
This was a solo project from start to finish. I led everything. From concept development and branding, to UI, UX, visual design, graphic creation, and subtle motion. The project stood out for reimagining the classic in a way that felt both familiar and future-facing, showing how design can bridge generational gaps through storytelling and tech.
